È il caso di fare chiarezza: Garibaldi fu anche un politico di prima grandezza. Fu parlamentare a Parigi, a Torino e a Roma. Dopo l’Unità restò attivo in politica e proseguì il suo percorso ideale promuovendo molte iniziative. Fu tra fondatori dell’Internazionale socialista, lanciò nell’Italia postunitaria le associazioni di mutuo soccorso e fondò la protezione animali. Tra le varie, promosse la costruzione dei muri sul lungotevere. Fu molto attivo e sensibile. Logico che molti si ispirarono a lui, sin da quando era ancora vivo: si pensi ai tanti garibaldini che entrarono in politica. Certo: la buona storia, che possono fare solo gli studiosi seri. C’è da dire che, purtroppo, il rumore del web non aiuta molto. Non voglio arrivare al giudizio pesante di Umberto Eco, ma è pur vero che l’anarchia della rete favorisce anche la diffusione di idee scorrette, fake news e, in non pochi casi, di menzogne costruite ad arte. Occorre il coraggio di sostenere e difendere la verità storica in tutte le sedi, internet compreso.

Che messaggio vuol dare a Napoli e ai napoletani in occasione dell’anniversario dell’ingresso del suo avo nella più importante città del Sud?
